the art of possibility

one of the BEST books i read in 2023!

it was one of the best because it gave me 10 different perspectives on how i should be looking at things in life and practical approaches to implement them.

the 10 perspectives that the authors talk about are:

1/ it is all invented: the perceptions, narratives and assumptions that we have about life are not fixed truths but are rather creations of our own minds. we need to recognise that many of our limitations and obstacles are self-imposed through mental constructs. thus, we need to accept that our views of the world are invented and start questioning them – this opens up possibilities for new perspectives, solutions and pathways that were previously unseen.

2/ stepping into the world of possibility: there is a need to shift from a scarcity and competition mindset to one filled with abundance and possibilities. we often compare and compete which limits our growth and happiness. we should see world as a place of abundance where there is enough success and fulfilment for everyone. to bring this to consciousness, always ask yourself ‘how are my thoughts and actions in the moment are reflections of the measurement world?’

3/ giving an A: a transformative approach in relationships is an idea to give an A to others – treating people as if they are already capable of achieving the best possible outcomes. this creates an environment of respect and possibility, which can inspire and motivate individuals to live up to the highest expectation, unlocks creativity and fosters possibility in work or personal relationships.

4/ being a contribution: this concept involves letting go of the ego-driven need for recognition or fear of failure and instead embracing a mindset where the primary goal is to add value to the lives of others and to the world. this shift brings freedom and purpose where individuals move away from the pressure of constantly measuring up to standards to a life of making a difference.

5/ leading from any chair: everyone has a leadership potential and can create a positive influence, be a contribution and take responsibility irrespective of the position or authority.

6/ rule number 6: we should not take ourselves or situations goddamn seriously – this a reminder to maintain a sense of humour and lightness in the face of life’s challenges and complexities. applying this rule helps us gain perspectives, reduce anxiety and approach life’s situations with open attitude.

7/ the way things are: we should let go of the resistance to the present situation and accept the way things are. the resistance can often cloud our judgement, limit creativity and hinder effective problem solving. the capacity of being present to everything that is happening, creates possibilities and enables us to act more effectively.

8/ giving way to passion: be open to new experiences, actively seeking what inspires and excites and allowing oneself to be vulnerable and authentic – this helps tap into one’s passion and overcome the fears of embarrassment and failure.

9/ lightning a spark: create an environment where everyone can thrive and contribute meaningfully. light a spark of enthusiasm and possibility in those you interact with – this encourages others to engage more fully, think more creatively and perform at their best.

10/ being the board: declare that ‘I am the framework for everything that happens in my life’ – take responsibility of how we engage with life’s events. this approach helps in recognising that while one might not have control over every situation, we have control over how we respond to and interpret these situations. gracing yourself with responsibility for everything that happens in your life leaves your spirit whole and leaves you free to choose again!
